Understanding Brain Health
Transforming neuroscience into practical and effective tools to support brain health
Individual health is linked to our communities, societies and environment. This is not a new vision of health but is a vision shared for centuries by many traditional indigenous communities throughout the world. |
Why brain health?
How many people do you love who have problems with their memory or brain fog or difficult coping?
How many people do you know with depression or dementia?
Anxiety, epilepsy or stroke?
There are an increasing number of people with illness that affect the brain, and even if people do not actually have an illness, there are an increasing number of people who have problems with certain brain functions such as memory or learning or mood or creativity.
The potential to live well and to reduce our risk of all illnesses is in part dependent on choices we make
My why?
My beautiful grandmother, whose home was my childhood Disney World, had Alzheimer’s disease, a form of dementia. There is no treatment for this illness. There is no cure. My initial sense of helplessness was replaced by focusing on what I could do to support people, to protect memory and promote brain health, to reduce the risk of brain illnesses, and to optimise brain performance.
Do you feel constantly stressed and fatigued?
Do you want to transform your life?
At Memorability, we use a cohesive brain skills model to train the brain that integrates several tools and strategies.
How can we change this to a cycle of health and wellness
Brain health is a field that involves keeping the brain healthy with different approaches to achieve this aim. These include:
- Strategies to reduce the risk of illnesses that affect the brain such as depression, dementia, epilepsy, stroke and more.
- Keeping the brain tissue healthy which includes the grey matter, white matter, brain cells and circuits, and processes such as plasticity by focusing on lifestyle factors such as exercise and managing stress.
- Optimising the way the brain functions such as decision-making, problem-solving, innovating, relationship building and achieving goals. This focuses on brain skills such as calm, creativity, empathy and focus.
While listed as separate they are linked in practice. The potential to live well and to reduce our risk of all illnesses is in part dependent on choices we make – to stop smoking, to exercise, to choose fruit over cake, to meditate, to spend time with people we love. I also know that this is easier said than done. There are also factors beyond our control. My approach is to focus on the factors we can control, on what we can do to help ourselves, and where possible to support policy, and community initiatives that promote health.
How can Memorability help you?
At Memorability we transform neuroscience into practical and effective tools to support brain health. Memorability’s brain skills model integrates several tools and strategies that are practical, effective and supported by neuroscience. There are specific solutions for individuals, health professionals, organisations and students. Since we understand that a one-size fits all approach cannot be effective, these tools and strategies can be adapted by individuals and teams. We help people to to make the necessary changes that support health, improve brain performance, lead to healthier relationships and happier days.
Think better. Feel better. Love and live better with better brain health.
